Confluence is seeking to appoint an artist or artists’ collaboration, with a process based practice and an interest in place-based narratives, to produce a work for publication in a multiple edition format.
The commission will take place between 1 September and 31 December 2016 in Haverfordwest, Pembrokeshire’s County town, as part of a 3 year arts and regeneration programme funded by the Arts Council of Wales and Pembrokeshire County Council.
Fundamental to a town’s vitality, are the people who use the town: residents, shoppers, workers and visitors. Conventional thinking assumes a town has or should have a town centre, but what is a town centre and how is this defined?
Psycho-geography relates to the geographical environment of a particular location, considered with regard to its influence on the mind and behaviour: how different places make us feel and behave.
By engaging with a range of people and stakeholders in the town, the commission offers an artist or artists’ collaboration the opportunity to investigate the psycho-geographies of Haverfordwest, and create an artwork that captures and communicates the findings of the research process.
An inclusive fee of £12,000 is offered for the commission and production costs.
An additional £2000 budget is available if required to cover travel and accommodation costs.
